Wanderer, your footsteps are the road, and nothing more; wanderer, there is no road, the road is made by walking.

Machado wrote this in the early 1900s, during years of personal grief after losing his young wife Leonor and living in the small, isolated Spanish town of Soria. He was a poet who spent much of his life teaching French in provincial schools, far from literary centers, making his way through ordinary days with no clear destination. The poem isn't about grand adventure — it's about the honest fact that none of us knows the path ahead, and that curiosity itself is what creates forward motion. It speaks to wonder today because it asks us to stop waiting for certainty before we begin.

Reflection

Think about something specific you have been postponing until you feel more ready. What is one small step you could take today, before you feel certain?
