We are surrounded by the symphony of God, and we ourselves are part of that symphony.

Hildegard wrote Scivias in the 1140s at the Benedictine monastery of Disibodenberg, recording visions she had experienced since childhood. She was in her forties, living under strict enclosure, yet she described the cosmos as alive, humming, and fundamentally whole. Her theology held that creation was not backdrop to human life but the very substance of it — every plant, body, and element participating in one ongoing act. In a time when many people feel separated from nature, neighbors, and even themselves, her image of the symphony names what that disconnection actually costs.

Reflection

Hildegard believed your body, your work, and the natural world were all part of one system. What is one relationship in your life right now that you have been treating as separate from everything else?
