All real living is meeting.

Buber wrote this in I and Thou, published in 1923, after the devastation of World War I had left Europe fractured and wary. A Jewish philosopher steeped in Hasidic teaching, he saw modern life pulling people into "I-It" relations — treating others as objects to manage, use, or categorize. Against that current, he insisted that real existence happens only in direct, unguarded meeting between one person and another. That kind of meeting still takes courage, because it means showing up without armor or agenda, fully open to whoever is standing in front of you.

Reflection

Real living happens in genuine meeting with another person. Who is one person I can truly meet today?
