Guard The Steady Flame

As a lamp sheltered from wind does not flicker, so is the yogi whose mind is under control and who is merged in the yoga of the Self.

Krishna, Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 6, Verse 19

In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna speaks these words to the warrior Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, teaching him the discipline of meditation before the great battle begins. He compares the disciplined mind of a yogi to a lamp set where no wind can reach it, burning steady and unwavering. In this tradition, stillness is not the absence of activity but the settling of the mind's habitual churn, the mental noise that scatters attention and distorts judgment. Through meditation and steady practice, that inner turbulence quiets the way sediment settles in disturbed water, until the water is clear enough to reflect what is actually there. Clarity comes not from forcing the mind to stop, but from ceasing to stir it further and letting it settle on its own.

Reflection

Krishna tells Arjuna a controlled mind burns steady, like a lamp untouched by wind. What one habit can I protect from distraction today to keep my mind that steady?
