Find The Path In Silence
In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in a clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness. Our life is a long and arduous quest after Truth.
Gandhi kept one day each week, usually Monday, as a day of silence, a practice he called his day of Mauna. He used it to rest his voice, catch up on letters, and think without the pull of conversation, even while leading a nation through petitions, boycotts, and negotiations with the British. Followers and journalists would wait outside his door, and he would answer them only in writing, insisting that stepping out of speech let him hear the truth of a situation more clearly. He returned to this quote often, treating silence not as withdrawal from the world but as the clearest way back into it.
Reflection
Gandhi treated silence as a discipline not an absence of sound. Where can I find ten quiet minutes today to listen to my own thoughts?
